18JUL2016 @sm8ps: Just finishing dCore Extension Management, last section Advanced dCore SCE Strategies.
Quoting your wiki entry: Upon loading, each of the files contained there-in is hard-linked into the root file system. One may wonder if reducing the size of extensions might reduce RAM consumption. That is not the case. In fact, if storage space is not a concern then there is no real need to invoke special strategies for minimizing extensions. In fact, neither the creation time of hard-links nor the RAM usage thereof is very noticable.
Think i agree with the RAM consumption statement, although running old systems and experimenting i have found measured performance improvements reducing the size and number of symlinks in an extension, see http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,19543.msg121157.html#msg121157
When possible and time permitting i will provide examples, objective results and comparisons so the user can determine whether the strategy is worthwhile. Just wanted to let you know, will be updating this section. If you disagree with anything please let me know and we can further discuss. Thanks - Marty
